Very Good

The Refuge de la Pierre a Berard is smaller sized refuge located at the end of the valley in the Vallon de Berard natural reserve. This reserve is surrounded bu the Aiguilles Rouge natural reserve and borders the Passy Natural reserve on its western border. Overall, the Refuge de la Pierra a Berard is located in one of the most natural settings without any 4x4 tracks or paved rounds anywhere to be found.

The Refuge itself is built against a very large rock which acts as a natural protection barrier against avalanches. The refuge is not a very large structure but still has a capacity of 40 beds split over 2 dormitories. As usual, you should bring your own sleeping bag liner. The refuge is closed in winter and does not provide a winter dormitory like some of the other refuges do. There are no showers but there is a large outdoor water trough with multiple faucets you can use to refill your water bottles or give yourself a quick splash. The refuge doubles as a snack bar when it is open and serves drinks and snacks.

There are a couple of very popular routes that run past the refuge. The normal route for climbing to the summit of Le Buet takes you past the refuge both on your way up and your way back. We got a detailed trail profile for our preferred route which runs via the Refuge de Loriaz and the Cheval Blanc and then descends back via the Refuge de la Pierra a Berard.

Another popular route is the full traverse from the Le Buet train station near Vallorcine to the train station of Servoz. This is a fantastic route that takes you through both the natural reserves of Vallon de Berard and the natural reserve of Passy. Beautiful route.

A shorter option would be to go from the Cascade de Berard at the start of the valley and walk or run to the refuge and then go back again.

Un itinéraire incroyable qui vous plonge au cœur de la réserve naturelle de Passy et du Vallon de Bérard. Il n'y a pas de villes ni de routes pavées dans ces vallées, c'est donc une expérience purement naturelle.
